3 G’s to Your Genius - November 8th, 2011

Back to School…

This week I have been invited to speak to some highschool kids at a local Christian school.  One of the teachers asked me if I would come speak to the class and said I could talk about whatever I wanted.  So I thought long and hard about what I would talk to them about and I decided not to talk about what I do.  Actually, I’m not going to talk about health much at all.  What I decided to talk to them about was their Genius.

Warning: Albert Einstein quote ahead…

It was Albert Einstein that said “Everyone is a genius.  But if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, it wi[...]

The Monster Inside - July 7th, 2011

Skillet

One of my guilty pleasures is a band called “Skillet.”  They ROCK!  One of my favorite songs of theirs is a song called “Monster.”  I thought about the song the other day when I was talking to a patient.  Now I know the  song isn’t about health but it made me think of a simple way of explaining the different ways we think about our body.

Two Sides to the Coin…

There are a lot of choices to make when it comes to your health and health care (or sick care).  You have to decide how or if you want to implement things like diet, exercise, medications, surgery, chiropractic care, massage ther[...]

5 Things Dave Ramsey Taught Me About Servant Leadership - November 18th, 2010

Servant?

I’ll be honest…I have always struggled with the word SERVANT. I know the Bible tells us to have a servants heart and I know a lot of my friends always talk about serving their patients and their customers. The simple truth is, “servant” has never been a term that I felt like I personally understood or resonated with. But a couple weeks ago I feel like that changed for me.  After sitting through Dave’s EntreLeadership simulcast, I feel like a light was flipped on after years of looking for the switch.

So I decided to make a list of the 5 things I learned about what it means to be a [...]

7 Reasons Why We Don’t Change - November 5th, 2010

Times are Changing

Change is a part of life. There’s no way of getting around it. Tonight, my daughter was watching some old videos of when she was a baby and I was amazed how much had changed in just 5 years. We have moved twice, I my wife and I have both lost weight (I got really fat during the pregnancy…sympathy weight.), we have since had our second child and my daughter is turning into quite the little lady. And that doesn’t even scratch the surface of all the things that are different.

The Human Experience

But one of the things that makes us uniquely human is the ability to choose change. Instead of being a slave [...]

Your Greatest Health Weapon: Born-With-It Intelligence - October 27th, 2010

Born That Way

Sometimes it’s the simple things that impact you the most. One of the most fascinating things I have ever seen in my life happened just a few moments after my daughter was born. I stood there in awe as I watched my wife pick up that tiny newborn baby and begin to feed her. It had never dawned on me that a child would innately know how to suckle. I guess I figured they wouldn’t know how to do anything. But I was totally wrong and it is something that I have never forgotten.

Making Poop

The truth is, it shouldn’t have been so surprising to me. I have talked to patients for years about their innate (born-wit[...]
